But first, why is this so important? It's important to market your business to create a brand because without a brand and just using your name and saying, "I'm a personal trainer," it's really hard to stand out in the marketplace. People remember brands; they go and they look up uh information they've received. So even if they heard positive word of mouth about you, if you don't have any type of online presence or engaging social media, or a website, or anything like that, and they go to try and research you, people want to research things before they go by in person, before they hire somebody for a service. So, you need to build up an online presence so that even if your business runs off referrals, know that those referred customers are going to go on to find out something about you before they contact you. And plus, you want to make them easy to contact you.

So without further ado, let's jump right in and talk about the seven steps to marketing your personal training business. Okay, first things first, you need to know who it is that you're after. Are you after busy professionals who are in the workplace all day and trying to get a quick workout on lunch or right after work? Are you targeting stay-at-home parents? Are you trying to make it convenient for stay-at-home parents to come get a workout either on site at their spot, at their home gym, or at the gym you designate, or even, hey, in the local park, right? Or maybe it's college students who are just trying to get into a fit shape and trying to understand and learn more about the basics of keeping themselves fit and healthy, and personal training is going to help them do that. Understanding who your training actually helps you tailor your marketing and everything else we're going to talk about, so that you can reach the right person and have the right brand that pulls them in.

Now, social media is your best friend. Sharing stories, right, on Instagram stories, workout tips, maybe a glimpse of your own fitness journey. Remember, anything you can do to be authentic on social media is going to help to build that presence and that connection with your potential customers. Word of mouth is extremely powerful. Setting up a referral program, offering discount accounts, or free sessions when your clients bring in friends create those win-win opportunities. People are getting fit, they're referring friends to you, you're getting a new business, growing your business, and their friends are getting fit, right? Invest in referrals with rewards for people for referring people to you.

Now, get involved in your community. Don't be afraid to host free workout classes at local parks or collaborate with nearby businesses. Very recently, at a park across the street from my house, there was a free yoga session during the day of a community event, right? That was a great way for that yoga instructor and the yoga studio to get noticed by hosting a free yoga class during the day of the event, right? So, it's a great way to build connections and build your business by showing your involvement in your community.

Next, be an information hub. You can create blogs or videos on fitness or nutrition. The more you educate your audience, this is called education-based marketing, when they trust your expertise, will trust your training, and want you to be the one to train them because you're their source of education, expertise already. Next up, have a website. You don't need anything crazy powerful or anything like that, just something simple, professional, that tells who you are, what you do, a little bit of your background, maybe include some testimonials, maybe a gallery of photos if you want. And next up, don't forget email marketing. Sending out fitness tips, special offers, class schedules, and updates, it keeps you engaged, keeps you top of mind in that inbox. they shouldn't all be promotional. It's going to keep them engaged in you and understanding what is coming. And hey, the more educational, helpful you can be in these emails, the more likely they are to open them and read them, which means when you do include promotional content, it's more likely to get them in the door and hire you. So, keep your clients engaged even outside the gym with email marketing.
